About Typing Parrot

Free typing exercises for kids

Typing Parrot is a free typing game for children and English learners. Pip the parrot says a word, a phrase or a sentence, and students type what they hear. Students practise touch typing and English listening and spelling at the same time.

Listen and type

Students who type the words before they appear earn bonus points. If they need help, the words appear on screen to copy, and the keyboard guide shows which key to press and which finger to use.

Six English levels

Exercises follow the CEFR levels used in schools: Pre-A1, A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1/C2. Each level starts with single words, then adds adjectives (a fat cat), then full sentences (I can see a fat cat).

Sentence building games

Students put mixed-up words in the right order, correct Pip's grammar mistakes, change sentences into questions, negatives and other tenses, grow short sentences into longer ones, and type silly sentences that show the grammar of every word.

Typing arcade games

Race the clock in Alphabet Dash, pop falling words in Falling Fruit, keep Pip in the air in Pip's Flight, and beat the fuse in Word Bomb. The word games use vocabulary from each student's English level.

Keyboard Camp

Seven touch typing lessons, from the home row to capital letters and the whole keyboard, with a finger guide for every key.
